First of all I would like to wish every single one of you all the best for this new year! May all your dreams come true and may you all feel happy and relaxed! Really, I wish you all the very very best!!!
In fact, I should starting telling you about my life here in Rome in Italian, but since some of you already told me this would cause big problems, I decided to keep on writing in english (except for the secrets I have: these I'll write in Italian, so who wants to know them, will have to take some effort!;-)
on the first the day of the new year, I was on the plane heading for my second home: ROMA! I must admit that leaving on the first was a bit on a short notice, but on the other hand, why waiting? So, I arrived in the evening and eventhough I thougt I was going to be the only one in the whole airport, I almost got mashed by all those people there! I surely wasn't the only one with the crazy idea of sitting in a plane on the first day of 2007!
My private cab-driver, Daniele (Grazie mille per questo Daniele) picked my up, and drove me home: Via Frederico Rossaza! While he relaxed ;-), I started decorating my room again and emptied the first part of my luggage... Daniele ate a bit of his own torta and around midnight I went to bed ... There i was, in my roman bed again... Always a bit strange these first nights away from home! But of course, since I already know my way here, it was all okay! And tired as I still was from newyears eve, I fell asleep in a second!
My class is a bit of a mixture between people from my old class (toko, remy and Ania), people from other classes (huei, Verena,...), and people who just arrived in Rome! We moved from classroom as well, a very big one in the mainbuilding of our school! Also teachers has changed: Gianna, a teacher I never had before, and Susanna, a very nice teacher I already had before! The class is really nice, but I must say I miss the our former teachers and of course I miss some of my friends, like Shun, sachi and Alessandra! Although we are still in lever 3.5, teachers decided to moves us up a bit because they think we're really learning quickly! Let's see how it goes on monday!
Eventhough I'm here again for almost a week, I must say that it really takes some time to get used again to this Italian! I think that because it really is a completely new language that it always remains a bit instabile and fragile... so from the moment you stop speaking and using it during your process of learning, you really lose again some of your skills! But no worries, I'm here for another 4.5 months so in the end, it should turn out well between me and my italian!! I'm sure!!
The first day after arriving here, I didn't do really much! I went to school, cleaned the whole flat, emptied my suitcase, etc... During the evening, Livia, my flatmate, arrived together with her father and her boyfriend Matteo! so that was nice.. at least I wasn't going to be alone in the flat for another day! My other roommate, marta, still hasn't arrived, but I think she said she would return today.. so maybe when I go home later, our flat will be complete again!
On wednesday Daniele and Cesare (a friend of Daniele) took Livia, Matteo and myself to .... the smallest cinema in the world!! oooh dio, I imnmediately fell in love with it!! It's situated in Villa Borghese and it's hidden between the trees! che carino!!! We went to see "il labirinto di fauno", a spanish fantasy film, dubbed in Italian of course! I must say, It turned out to be actually quite good, although no one of us had heard from this film, except for Daniele who chose it! The good thing was that I even understood quite a lot of the dialogues and everything! So I came out of this little cinema with a feeling of proudness! How nice!
Afterwards we went to this birreria nearby san pietro where they have soooo many belgian beers! The whole cafe is decorated with advertisments for belgian beers, but even for... NEwcastle brown ale!! So, where could I feel more home then there: being in Rome, surrounded by memories of belgium and Newcastle! Really nice! I ordered myself a Westmalle tripple and oh dio... how I enjoyed it!!
On thursday Me and Remy, a french boy of my class, got invited at Shun and Sachi's flat to have a last lunch all together! (they used to be in my class but moved yesterday to Firenze to study there for a year!)It was really nice.. they prepared all kind of japanese food, and they even got Remy and I a little present! Really, they are too nice! So, we had a great lunch, but unfortunately, afterwards It was again time to say goodbye... Non mi piace...veramente!
Before there was time to realize it, it was friday again... In the evening we got invited by Huei, Milou and Steffi to go have a drink at their flat! It was a really nice evening, with all girls chatting around the table till it became midnight and we had to catch our last bus!
On saturday I invited some of my friends over to come over for lunch! THe invation was at 1pm but all of them arrived somewhere between 2pm -02.30pm, and NO, they were not all Italian!! Cesare, Daniele and Marco arrived even first (that means. 1 hour late). My dutch buddies Steffi, Milou and Huei needed even longer to arrive at my flat! but no worries, we had time and there were special circumstances! ;-)
It was a lovely afternoon (we ate on our enormous terrace outside.. Yes we did!) and around 7pm they left! First I felt like doing something in the evening, but once I layed on the bed, I almost fell asleep so I decided that it could be a good idea to stay home and enjoy my bed!
Today on sunday I took myself out for a great walk through Rome! First I visited the biggest fleemarket of Rome, Porta Portese, which starts in front of my door! then I walked along the Tevere all the way up to San Pietro to see the huge albero di natale and the presebe! Really nice! There the sun started to shine, so I found myself a seat and studied a bit my italian irregular verbes! How relaxing it was!
Next week will be a bit of a strange week I think! The very nice thing is that Sabine, my german friend from Newcastle, comes to visit me! so that is great! But, the thing is that I have to move out of my flat on saturday because the girls that will take my room is arriving that day! The big problem is that I havn't heard a thing of the girls of my new flat! so there is no contract or nothing, nothing has been paid yet and I don't know if they even are in Rome!! I think tomorrow I'll go ring their doorbell and hopefully someone will answer.. who knows I'll end up on the street: me and my two suitcases! Well, we're in italy so there is no need to get stressed, but still.. I'd like to know what is going to happen! anyhow, from the moment I move, I'll pass you all my new address! so please, write me some nice letters then!! ;-)
Okay, dear sweetie pies! That's it for now! Take all good care of yourself and we'll hear eachother soon again!!
Carissimo abbraccio!
Sofiaaaaa
