17 December 2006 | Italië, Rome
Very strange I can say: the one moment I was still on the christmasparty of our school, and before I can realized it, i'm back home.
Of course it nice to be back home,to see my lovely parents again, my grandmother.. They spoiled me with fantastic food, italian wine etc.. so after arriving saturday-morning we had our own little family-party! It's really great to see them again.. only a pitty Dieter is still in Australia, so we'll miss eachother during the holidays.. I think he'll just have to come visit me in Rome once he's back home!
My last week in Rome once really a very nice one with a lot of nice evenings, good lessons, efficient christmas-shopping, etc..
Monday and tuesday were very calm days with some christmas-shopping during the afternoon and relaxing at home in the evening. On monday I went on a shopping-giro by myself, but on tuesday I got company from Huei and Valérie: we went from Via Nazionale to the Christmas-market on Pzz Navona, to Corso Vittorio Emmanuele, to the Pantheon, etc..
Wednesday-evening on the contrary I didn't stay home, but with a very nice group of people we went to the Glühwein-evening that was organized by the erasmus-society! They had set up this little tent on Terrazza di Pincio; a "mozzafiato" viewing point next to pzz Del Popolo (underneath the fantastic Christmastree). With all the christmas lights, the christmas tree, the cold weather, the hot Glühwein, and the magnificent view on Rome, It was just one of those unique evenings! In total we were with a group of about 15 people: Shun and sashi, Cesare (a friend of my italian friend Daniele), ALex, Julia and Valentina (Alex' her flatmates) + and their Italian friends, and some friends from university of Alex! I don't think I need to explain how the atmosphere was.. GREAT!! We stayed untill the Glühwein was finished, and then Cesare drove me back home with his Fiat Panda! (Funny car!). I added some pictures on the site, so do check them!
Thursday was a very important day for me because I cancelled my flat for the second semester! In other words, I'll be moving to another flat on the 13 of january!!! Woohooo! It's a very nice flat with a perfect location, big room and most importantly: very nice Italian flatmates! I got to know them already because Alex lived in this flat during the first semester, so yes: I'm moving into Alex her room! Even in Rome it's a small world! (Alex, ancora grazie mille per tutto il tuo aiuto!!!!! Veramente!!!)
In the evening I got invited for a pizza-dinner at "my future flat".. hihi! Valentina and her boyfriend Frederico had baked a lot of pizza's and together with all their Italian friends we got to taste them all!Alex and I were the only "non-perfect-speaking-italian-people", or in other words: stranieri! Quite tiring I must say because it really takes a lot of concentration to follow and participate in the conversations, but on the other hand, it's great we have this possibility to be among real italians!Really nice! This evening I also gave Alex her little goodbye-present, because she won't return to Rome after Christmas!! Very Very sad since we were really two little soulmates in Rome!
Friday was really my last day in Rome in 2006! After class and going with daniele to university to print out my plain ticket, I needed to go the christmasparty at school! School closes now for 2 weeks, so all the best wishes needed to be said that evening! Eventhough everybody was a little bit in fear for the party (because all classes had to prepare a little spettacolo), it all turned out very nicely! After eating some typical italian christmas sweets, singing the song we made with the students of the academic year, looking at the show and doing a "brindisi" on the new year, we all started dancing! Rémy, Alex, Shun, Sashi, Huei, Milou, Steffi, Benoit, Lisa, Valerie.... everybody danced! I danced till my last bus home was about to leave from termini! I said goodbye to all our friends from school..luckily most of them I'll see again in january! ALex joined me to dropp me off at my bus, and there we said goodbye! brrrr... i don't like saying goodbye.. (ma alex, ci vediamo presto, okay??!!!!!!!! Can't wait for your visit in January!)
At 1am I arrived home, and 4 hours later my alarm clock went off again! I took my luggage, and together with Verena -a german girl from school- we took a taxi to Termini! There we met with Steffi and Milou, and together we took the shuttlebus to Ciampino. And yes, at 11.30 exactly I was again on Belgian territory..
Time flies and I still don't know where to!
so yes, being home involves to very different feelings: Very happy to be home again, but at the same time unhappy to end this first very nice chapter of Rome! I'm already curious how the second one will go... very differently i think!
Okay, BUT, IMPORTANT: I'm home now so I want to meet up with as many of you as possible!!! I can't wait to hear about how you are all doing!!! so, I'm using again my belgian mobile number, so call, sms, mail or whatever!! Okay??
Oh and to everybody:
TANTI AUGURI e BUON NATALE!!!
Ciaooooooooooooo,
Sofie
